Sacred Stillness Blog

This blog is designed to share what I have received from God as I spend time in nature and in the Word. I love to listen to what God teaches me during quiet moments, when I make space for stillness and then share those insights with others. Follow me to get the latest inspiration and also to see what God is doing in my life.

Refreshing Rain

I know I usually write inspirational ways that nature entices me to be better, to think deeper, and to experience God more fully, however, as I am at home on this rainy, dreary morning, I have so much to do and so little motivation to do it. As I look out through the window at the grey landscape, I think about how rain is God’s way of replenishing the earth with the drink that it so desperately thirsts for. I ask myself and I ask God, what does the rain speak to me? It makes me feel sleepy and lazy and the thing I want to do the most is curl up in a blanket, read a good book and sip some hot tea. Is this perhaps what my body and my soul desperately need? Maybe the rain speaks in ways that go unnoticed? Perhaps it teaches us to slow down and to rest, and is God’s way of inspiring us to get replenished? Possibly a rainy, foggy day is inspirational after all.

Yes, there are chores to do, mouths to feed, and jobs to go to, but can we give ourselves permission to sit and rest awhile and to allow ourselves to soak up the rain of God? To wrap ourselves in His love, even for a few minutes, and take a nap that totally refreshes us?

Isaiah 45:8 You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let the salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it: I, the Lord, have created it.

Lord, I pray that you would open our spirits to receive the refreshing rain of your presence. Holy Spirit, flood us with grace and peace and wash away the heaviness that our souls carry. Minister showers of righteousness to us and cleanse us from any impurities in our hearts and our thoughts.

Jesus, you are life and breath to me and I sit with you in sacred stillness. I breathe deeply of your love and goodness and your refreshing.
