A Time to Build and a Time to Bless

I was listening to a podcast the other day, and something just jumped out at me. It was a quote by Tauren Wells. He said, “Some things you are called to be, some things you are called to build, and some things you are called to bless."

This resonated with me because I am in the season of life where I am looking at the building aspect differently than I did ten years ago. For the reason that whatever you build, you also have to maintain. Even though this is hard to admit, the reality is, I don’t want a whole lot more to maintain. Some days, I struggle to keep up with what I already have on my plate.

It’s so easy to take on things you know you’re gifted at doing. It seems like a no-brainer to go ahead and do it. However, I don’t have the same energy that I had when I was in my 30s, or even 40s, for that matter. So I seek the Lord for guidance and ask Him if this is something for me to engage in or something to give my blessing to. Honestly, this is quite a new concept for me, and I am learning as I go.

At this point in my life, I am pretty secure in my identity and in knowing what I am to be, although lately God has been taking me deeper with that. So, the building and blessing part is where I need discernment the most. I want to be very intentional about what/who I pour into, and really make an impact. The building I am currently doing looks a little different than the past. It is building people, which I find very fulfilling. I’m spending more time sowing into people and less time doing the hands-on work. Despite the fact that I am still able to do the work, it’s time for me to hand it over to the next generation and be their coach and cheerleader.

I find that God is calling me to bless endeavors more than I ever have. Passing on the blessing of God holds a lot of weight, which I’m not sure our minds can fully comprehend. In the Old Testament, receiving a father's blessing determined the future of an individual. A blessing releases God's favor and anointing, and his resources.

As I enter my senior years, I want to be very intentional about passing on a blessing, not only to my children and grandchildren, but also to my spiritual sons and daughters. In addition, I want to bless ministries and kingdom-building ventures. And not just bless them monetarily, but bless them with the words I speak over them and the prayers I offer up to heaven for them, which will release God's favor and anointing.

To everything there is a season. Ecclesiastes 3:1

  1. That Building and Blessing distinction is very helpful. I am in the prayer team for two ministries and often feel bad that I cannot be a worker bee to help full the ministry needs. I felt a surge of joy at your suggestion that my prayers are blessing them with favor and anointing.

    1. Thank you for sharing. The worker bee mentality is very prevalent in our society, isn't it? Some day, when we get to heaven, we will see what our prayers have accomplished! Continue pressing in with fervent prayer, dear one. I bless you with peace, joy, and contentment as you fight battles in the heavenly realm. Thanks for reading my blog.
